A very dark and moody painting originally by Georg Melchior Kraus was inspired by one of Goethe’s adaptions, Iphigenia and Tauris, where Goethe played the role of Tauris.
This play was most dramatic and to lighten the tone and with total respect for Goethe and Kraus, a Santa hat was added with the reminder to Orestes to lock the sleigh door after use.
Be careful what you wish for at Christmas or be prepared for the consequences.
