After seeing the Edmund Munch exhibition at The Tate – The Modern Eye, I was enthralled with the mood and images of women and girls gazing out of the paintings. Returning to Australia I wanted to capture the essence of Munch but in a lighthearted way (seems an oxymoron).  I have maintained the background mood but changed the expression to one of innocence and the anticipation of Santa Claus.  I have so enjoyed creating these Christmassy paintings thanks to Munch.
